To learn about the standards, you need to familiarize yourself with the section on Academic Integrity that is included in each edition of the Student Handbook. You will find the relevant information under the section devoted to the Honor Code. You should have a paper copy of this handbook. If your paper copy is not handy, you can access the handbook on the web at this address. You also will find that the reference librarians at McConnell Library have put together an excellent "Virtual Handout" devoted specifically to plagiarism. Entitled "Avoiding Plagiarism," it is available in a pdf format. Take the time to familiarize yourself with the information contained in these resources! If you are charged with a violation of one of the standards, the repercussions can be extremely serious. Penalties range from failure on the assignment to expulsion from the university. Don't expect to escape the penalties by pleading ignorance: you're an adult, and you are expected to know and understand university policies governing your behavior in and out of class. |
