Locating Hard Copy (Not available online) Articles
If you see “McConnell Library” under “Provided by” it indicates that the journal, magazine or newspaper is physically in the library either in paper, microfiche or microfilm. The phrase “McConnell Library” is differentiating a journal that is available in hard copy from one that you can access online. If an online version of your journal exists that is usually the best way to access it and you will want to try that before looking for the hard copy.
If you only see “McConnell Library” in the column under “Provided by” [or if you are searching the "Titles of journals, magazines and newspapers" list and see "In McConnell Library"] then your only way to obtain the article is to come into the library, you will not be able to access it online. It says the library only has the journal in hard copy, yet I click on the "Journal Link" and there are two links: Why and what do I do?
Before coming in to the library you want to make sure we have the journal for the year you want and you want to to see what format(s) the journal is available in. It is possible that we do not have it for the date(s) you need. There are three format possibilities: paper, microfilm and microfiche.
If you have a screen like the one below the top red arrow indicates the date of the article– in this case it is 2003. You want to click on “Journal” to see discover the date range and format(s) [or if you are searching the "Titles of journals, magazines and newspapers" list click on "In McConnell Library"]

HELP: It says the library only has the journal in hard copy, yet I click on the "Journal Link" and there are two links: Why and what do I do?
On the screen below you want to look for the word “Location.” This indicates what format(s) we have the journal in. There are three possibilities. 1. Periodicals – the paper copy of the journal 2. Microfilm 3. Microfiche. In this instance we carry the journal in paper and microfilm. Under “Location” are the words “LIB. HAS.” This indicates the dates we have the journal for in that format. In this case, we have the journal to the present day in periodical format – so we have 2003. In Microfilm, however, we only had it until 1969, so you would not be able to find 2003 in Microfilm.

It says the library only has the journal in hard copy, yet there are two links: Why and what do I do?
The citation below indicates we only have the journal in hard copy and not online [or you searched the "Titles of journals, magazines and newspapers" list, it indicated that we only have dates you want in hard copy].

However, you may click on “Journal” [or "in McConnell Library"] and be given two links to choose from like in the screen below. This means we carry the journal in hard copy and online format. The online copy will have the word “Online” in parentheses in the title. Also, to the right of the item it indicates it is an E-journal.

Why didn't the online version show up earlier? Because we do not have it for the date you want. Ignore the dates listed under “Year.” This tells you the date the journal was first published, not the date we first started carrying the journal.
If you clicked on this online version you would get the following screen. This states that we have this online journal from 2000 until 18 months ago. This tutorial was created on Dec. 13, 2005 and as the article we want is dated 10/1/05 and came out less than 18 months ago it is not currently available online. (If you looked for it on Dec. 13, 2007 it would be available online).

If you click on the hard copy version you get the following screen. LIB. HAS indicates the dates we have the periodical from 1991 to present.
