IM and Chat Help FAQ
Who can use the IM and chat reference?
Although our primary audience is the Radford University community, we will answer questions from others as time and resources allow.
Who answers the IM and chat reference questions?
Questions are answered by reference librarians and graduate students who have bee trained to staff the reference desk.
Can others see what I type into the above chat box?
No. Only you and the reference desk staff person can see what you type. Other people viewing this page will have an empty chat box in which to type their own questions.
Are my IM and chat sessions confidential?
Transcripts of the sessions are retained, but if a transcript is shared outside of the library, any personal information will be deleted.
The chatbox says "rulibpractice is offline" even though it is during reference desk hours. Now what?
Type your question anyway; sometimes the software loses the connection for a second and mistakenly thinks we are offline. If you hit the reload button on your browser, the error should be fixed. If you type your question and do not get a reply, check the library calendar to see if the library is open. You can always call, e-mail, or directly IM us, too.
