| The McGuffey Training School was built in the early 1930s as
a typical elementary school building. It was designed according to
the best architectural principles for elementary education and
demonstration purposes. Each grade (from kindergarten to 7th grade) had a
large classroom, teacher's office and activity room. The
school was used to supervise student teachers in classroom settings, for
experimental projects in education and was part of the city's public
school system. The grade school students were drawn from the city of
Radford.
The building was renovated in the early 1950s and renamed in honor of Jeremy Pate Whitt, the College's long-serving Registrar. Whitt Hall now houses the departments of Accounting, Finance, Management, and Marketing. Whitt contains a 63-seat tiered lecture hall, several smaller classrooms, and two microcomputer laboratories. |
