Renovation of McConnell Library

library1995.gif (201954 bytes)

This picture nicely traces the growth of McConnell Library through the years.  The original library consisted of the present day  lobby and the reading room.  As one entered the Library, one faced the circulation desk that is now occupied by a statue of Joan of Arc.

By 1967, McConnell Library had outgrown its space. At the cost of $715,000,  four floors amounting to an additional 40,000 square foot increased space fourfold, making room for 150,000 additional books.  The new "wing" was furnished with reading nooks, potted plants and beanbag chairs.

In February of 1993, McConnell Library underwent its 2nd expansion.  This picture (with dates added later) was taken by Lois Edmonds, an employee of the Library, shortly after construction ended on the latest addition in 1995.
