Architectural Plan for
Radford College

| This plan was presented to the Board of Trustees of the State Normal and
Industrial School for Women at Radford by the Charles M. Robinson, Inc. architectural
firm. The plan was followed only for the siting of the campus's first
two buildings--the Administration Building and Tyler Hall. The Administration Building
(Founders Hall) is at the top left of the drawing. If one looks carefully on
the left side of the drawing Robinson had made plans for a library and a music hall.
Plans for a baseball diamond also fell through but tennis courts were completed.
There were also plans for the construction of several dormitories and a
"refectory" or dining hall. These were replaced by the Student Building
(Lucas Hall), McConnell Library, and the Science Building (Reed-Curie Hall). The firm of Frye and Stone took over architectural responsibilities for the campus upon the completion of Tyler Hall. |
