Faculty
1913-1914

As the picture's caption states, this was the first faculty of the Radford State Normal School.  As with any group of individual pictures, one can not take for granted that the names are correctly matched to the picture.  For example, in the right-hand group, Miss Moffett is incorrectly identified as Miss Terry and vice versa.  The Radford Record Album failed to include a third set of individuals which can be found in the 1914 edition of the Radnor yearbook on page 18.

As first-year faculty, these individuals were, for the most part, the only members of their departments. Moving from left to right, instructors and departments are listed below.

Eloise Ambler Harrison Mathematics
Florence C. Baird Vocal and School Music
Blanche Bulifant Primary Methods/Training School Supervisor
John Preston McConnell President
Mattie C. Denny French and German
Joseph Emery Avent Education
Lucy Goode Puryear English
Eleanor Terry Assistant in English
William Gilbert History and Social Science
M'Ledge Moffett Household Arts
Lillian Simmons Manual Arts
Ernest P. Lane Physics and Elective Mathematics
Mary Wortley Montague Assistant in History
Elizabeth LaFayette James Piano and Voice
