This module provides a brief introduction to the nature of libraries in general, and especially the resources, services, and arrangement of McConnell Library.

All libraries operate on a basic principle - to make their resources available to their clientele. But, because the sum total of each library's resources, clientele, history, buildings, etc., is unique, individual libraries are themselves unique and can vary widely in terms of resources, services, and arrangement.

McConnell Library is actually two libraries in one. On the one hand, it is a physical building filled with books, videos, magazines, journals, newspapers, and other resources available for your use. The library also contains a staff of more than 35 people dedicated to helping you find and use the resources available. At the same time, the library is also a virtual, electronic library that provides access to electronic books, magazines, journals, newspapers, databases and many other resources through its Web site.

In order to become an information literate student at Radford University, it is important to become familiar with both the physical and virtual McConnell Library. After completing this module you should have a general idea of the great variety of resources available through McConnell Library, how these resources are organized as well as many of the services available to you from McConnell Library.
