AIDS/Cancer
Research - Provides abstracts of scientific literature. Topics
include virology, immunology and oncology.

First -(1990-present) contains bibliographic citations that
describe items listed on the table of contents pages of more than
12,500 journals in business, humanities, medicine, popular culture,
science, social science, and technology. Updated daily.
EBM
Reviews: Best Evidence - The Best Evidence Collection
consists of two journals: ACP Journal Club, a publication of the
American College of Physicians, and Evidence-Based Medicine, a joint
publication with the British Medical Journal Group. The editors
of Best Evidence screen the top clinical journals on a regular basis
and identify studies that are both methodologically sound and clinically
relevant. They write an enhanced abstract of the chosen articles
and provide a commentary on the value of the article for clinical
practice.

the full text of the regularly updated systematic reviews of the
effects of healthcare prepared by The Cochrane Collaboration.
EBM
Reviews - Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effectiveness (DARE)-
a full text database containing critical assessments of systematic
reviews from a variety of medical journals. DARE is produced
by the expert reviewers and information staff of the National Health
Services' Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (NHS CRD) at the
University of York, England, and consists of structured abstracts
of systematic reviews from all over the world. DARE records
cover topics such as diagnosis, prevention, rehabilitation, screening,
and treatment.

free of charge on the World Wide Web to its MEDLINE database of

contains 8.6 million MEDLINE records dating back to 1966; (2) Internet

The Merck Manual of
Diagnosis and Therapy - The 17th edition of the Merck
Manual of Diagnosis and Therapy is now available on the WWW.
Users will find over 300 chapters on medical diseases, disorders,
and related drug information in 23 specialties. Entries for
each disease or disorder provide information such as causes and
risk factors, symptoms and diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
The online Manual is searchable by keyword and includes hyperlinks
to chapters, topics, diagrams, and tables throughout the text.
National Center for Complementary
and Alternative Medicine - sponsored by the National Institutes
of Health, this site provides information on complementary and alternative
medicine to practitioners and the public. Search the CAM
Citation Index, an index consisting of approximately 180,000
bibliographic citations from 1963 to 1998, obtained from the National
Library of Medicine's Medline database.
National Center for Health
Statistics - sponsored by the CDC, the NCHS is the primary US
agency for vital and health statistics. This site provides
access to most of the Center's publications since 1994, selected
NCHS public-use data files, and other Internet sites featuring health-related
information. Sections include "FASTATS", which provides quick
access to brief statistical information by broad subject headings,
and "Publications and Information Products", which includes the
full-text of recent reports in selected NCHS publications.
Nutrition Navigator- The
Nutrition Navigator, published by the Tufts University School of
Nutrition Science and Policy, is a database of evaluated and categorized
nutrition-related web sites. Each site indexed by the Nutrition
Navigator has been carefully evaluated by a nutritionist and rated
numerically in various categories. The site reviews contain brief
descriptions, an indication of the intended audience, and other
information.
Office of Research
on Minority Health - sponsored by the National Institutes of
Health, this site offers information on ORMH programs, publications,
links to selected clinical trials, and numerous other related links.
Also includes information on the NIH Minority Health Initiative
(MHI), a multi-year program aimed at "improving the health of minority
Americans and research training programs designed to increase the
numbers of underrepresented minorities in all aspects of biomedical

provides state by state environmental, health, education, fiscal
(taxes and welfare) and political statistics as well as news stories
